Truly Bangalore is a one-of-a-kind South Indian Restaurant serving authentic Bangalore Style Food.
Our restaurant will offer the best quality ingredients and authentic flavours with utmost attention to hygiene standards.
We are a family run restaurant, serving Durham for over a decade with Rekha's Indian Kitchen.
We started this restaurant with the aim to provide original, authentic, fresh flavours at an affordable price in Durham. After a decade of serving the community we are all set to launch our new brand "Truly Bangalore" A first ever Bangalore Style restaurant offering pure vegetarian dishes.
We stand behind our dream to serve this amazing food from the city we grew up in and called home.
We as a team strive to create the best food experience with uncompromised quality at an affordable price.

Our Story
Our journey from India to Canada started when Umesh moved to Canada to train horses for Windfields farm Oshawa in 2005. The children and I joined him in 2007 when the company sponsored us to visit.
We fell in love with everything about this land, the people, the diversity, the equal opportunities, the landscape and yes the winters too.
As many immigrants we started working on making this our new home, with lots of dreams, visions and dedication.

I started working as a teacher at Brooklin Mill Montessori while my husband was training horses, life was a beautiful experience.
Our humble career in the food industry began at a fundraiser we hosted at our local United Church in Oshawa, Ontario.
We Loved cooking our first meal for 60 diners and the compliments we received was amazing. We started making samosas and butter chicken for the bazaar and church pantry and the response was incredible .
But we could not continue with our full time jobs and children’s education, the dream of starting a food business just seemed like only an idea.
With the year 2014 and our kids settling in high school we took a chance and started an at home food catering service and within the first month we had already served over 100 orders, It was there that we learned the skills of a professional kitchen and restaurant. Working closely with the Durham Health Department to make sure all Protocols were followed the business was booming.
The first blessing ( yes I call it a blessing) came when we had the By-Laws ask us to stop the food service from home after receiving complains about the traffic during pick up. We were shattered and felt like our dreams crashed, But we quickly started delivering food from the Metro parking lot with the suggestion of the By-law officer. Our customers held us through our tough times and our efforts paid off and we multiplied a hundred percent more than our service at home. This is when our God sent Doug and his beautiful wife Janice from Sunny-ridge Management reached out to us during their vacation in South Africa. They had learned about our situation with the By-laws and offered to build us a commercial space to finally give our business a proper Home. With the confidence with our increasing customer support and the opportunity given by our good samaritans we set out on an adventure of a lifetime. Switching from our full time careers we dedicated everything we had to bring good quality Indian food to Durham.

In 2018, we opened our first location in Whitby (ON).
We proudly stand by our vision of offering food with great quality and consistency at Rekha’s Indian Kitchen.
Continuing this legacy of food services and excellence, we take pride in announcing the next chapter of our vision. Bangalore cuisine is something we have always wanted to introduce to everyone.
